Sean Carey is the Owner, Head Instructor and Chief
Examiner for Front Range Martial Arts. Mr. Carey has been involved in
Martial Arts training for over 27 years, and has been teaching others for
nearly 20 years. He began his training in 1984 in Shotokan Karate. In
1987, Mr. Carey began studying Tae Kwon Do where he achieved the rank of 4th
Degree Black Belt (Master Instructor). Mr. Carey was a 3-time Kansas State
Champion in sparring and was also highly ranked in kata/forms and weapons
competitions. In 1987, at the age of 17, Mr. Carey took 1st
place in the Oklahoma City National Karate Tournament in the Under 18
Advanced Belt division.
In 1997, Mr. Carey began studying American Kenpo
Karate, in which he received his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1999.
After receiving his black belt in American Kenpo, he once again became
active in the tournament circuit. Throughout 1999-2000, Mr. Carey was
ranked 1st place in the Adult Black Belt division in sparring and
2nd place in the Adult Black Belt division in kata/forms in the
Western Colorado Karate League. He has since been awarded his 2nd, 3rd
and 4th degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate. Mr. Carey
is a firm believer that once a student, always a student. This is evident
as he continues his own training in Kenpo Karate, as well as studying and
holding rank in both Japanese Jiu-Jitsu as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Mr. Carey’s passion for the Martial Arts is evident in
his teaching. He believes that everyone has the right and should have the
ability, to defend themselves should the occasion ever arise. He enjoys
teaching both adults and children, so that others can experience and share
in the joys of the martial arts--fitness, discipline, confidence and
character--that he has enjoyed. Mr. Carey is also active in his community.
He has been a YMCA Youth Basketball Coach, from 2006-2008 he served as the PTA president for his children’s elementary
school, and has recently served as both a Den Leader and Cubmaster for a
local Cub Scout pack.
